MC Travel - WY, ID, UT, MT

  • The Snowy Range in WY, then either north to I-80 or south to CO.

  • Yellowstone – although honestly, this is a little risky on the bike.  Was in stopped traffic when several buffalo walked across the road two cars in front of us.  Thankfully, people had pulled off the road when there were bears!

  • I-80/I-84 from Evanston, WY to Ogden, UT – be sure to take the pull-out at the Devil’s Slide view point.  I-84 north of Ogden is nice…all the way up to Boise and on to Ontario, OR.

  • Craters of the Moon.  Ride from Mountain Home, ID -> Arco, ID -> Blackfoot, ID is awesome!!

  • Twin Falls, ID area – Shoshone Falls / Hwy 30 from Burley to Twin Falls, then north to Bliss, ID..  Be sure to stop at the bridge before hitting Twin Falls to see the remnants of Evel Knevel’s ramp for his jump over the Snake River!!  Feel free to base jump off the bridge also, it is a long way down!!  Shoshone falls is awesome.

  • Mallad Gorge on I-84 – approx. 20 miles north of Twin Falls.  Don’t blink while you cross the bridge – short view frame – awesome view to the west!!  The off-the-interstate road to the small park/viewpoint used to be a dirt road…not sure if it is yet or not.  But, it is worth taking the time to see it.  Snake River views farther north on I-84 are awesome also.

  • I haven’t been on it yet, but I have heard from other bikers, that Hwy 191 north of West Yellowstone is awesome.  Maybe next summer…was thinking of going the Glacier.

  • I haven’t been on Beartooth yet, but 89 north out of Yellowstone and I-90 to Billings is nice.  Beartooth is famous for being awesome.  The rest of I-90 east of Billings…OK, but not great!

  • Can’t say that I highly recommend I-80 across WY.  The wind is usually blowing 40+ m.p.h. on most of that stretch!!  But, there are some awesome views…especially when you get around the Rock Springs / Green River area.  The Hampton Inn, just off the interstate in Green River is nice.  The Best Western in Evanston is nice.  Rawlins and Laramie motels are hit & miss.  Cool downtown bar/grills in Green River, Rock Springs, Rawlins, Laramie and Cheyenne.  And, be sure to stop at the little hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Wamsutter, WY (although I forget the name of it right now).  It is on the south side of I-80, and about a ¾ mile jog around to the east side of the little town, a right turn, then the restaurant is on your left.  Great food!!

  • Vedauwoo, just off I-80 around Laramie, WY.  Haven’t stopped there, but looks cool from the interstate.

  • Just across the border into NE, from WY– must stops are Cabelas in Sidney, the Sand Piper (?) bar/grill by Lake McConaughy (on your right a mile or two after crossing the dam after going through Ogallala), then west on 92/26 to the Bridge Port / Scottsbluff area (Chimney Rock, Courthouse Rock and Jailhouse Rock).
